Montalivet and Vendays are seated on the West coast of France between the sand beaches of the Atlantic shoreline and the Gironde Estuary in the Medoc region.

The Aquitaine has a long history, which is waiting to be discovered hidden
away under the blanket of pine trees covering this part of the Medoc.
Calm is the word that springs to mind as you step out of your car. The speed
of city life is a distant memory as you walk down the high street heading
for a relaxing day on the beach.
With limited accomadation (no building over two stories)
book early for your summer break so you will not be disapointed. The summer
season in this region of France lasts from the middle of June to the end of
August. Get here out of season and the beach belongs to you!
Surrounding the village you will find activities for
all age groups and tastes. If its sport which leads you; the sea and the freshwater
lakes on your doorstep will be your play ground for fishing, canoeing, kite
surfing, sailing and surfing.
If water is not your element; try out the archery, bike tours, horse
riding, go- karts, motor- cross, speed sailing
(land-yacht) and tennis which are all on offer for your stay. The life of
the village is interlocked with nature, with two naturist camps on either
side holding over 10.000 people in July and August, you will never be far
away from the basics of life. (have a look at the tourist office website here. )
Nights out at the bars and restaurants of Montalivet and Vendays can lead to some great times; from a
sun set cocktail on one of the sea view terraces to the full on party; the
choice is yours. The restaurant's of the village hold many suprises and culinary
delights; from the "local Medocain table" to the "classic pizzeria,
all you have to do is select your menu.
Montalivet has an open air maket
occuring each day during the summer months. This market
with its colourful mix of over 200 stalls and stands is world famous for its
produce and atmosphere. Open from 8.30 am until 2pm each day.
The mix of stands spread across the village square will take you across the
world. On a good morning you could check out the hamocks of Mexico before
crossing over to the rugs of Morocco while admiring the cottons of India.
I am sure of one thing; you will always find your way back to the oysters
and fine wines of the Medoc, sold from
the numerous "bouvets" spread throughout the market.
Don't panic; the market is not just oysters and white wine. You will also
find tucked away in the alleys saussages from Lyon, fish fresh from the Atlantic
Ocean and cakes and pies from the Basque region of France. The selection does
not stop here, I'll let you do a bit of hunting...
